PSALM 119:35
Make me to go in the path of thy commandments; for therein do I delight. KJV
Of all my body parts I think I have spent the most time talking and listening to are my knees. Now, before you go writing me off as another wacko, how many of you talk to your body and try to coax it through the day? All of you!! I am just being honest and aware that two particular parts speak to me loud and clear.
I have spent years running and walking on hard surfaces, such as concrete, rocks, and metal decks. At first, I started receiving a little whisper from the pair, then a low moan. Finally, I heard a loud cry of agony. This cry came from simply bending or squatting too fast or trying to wear three inch heels for a few minutes. Yes, I have seen a doctor, who had 3D models of a knee from normal to one affected by rheumatoid arthritis. It was not a pretty picture (model).
The bottom line is, I have learned to exercise on softer more forgiving surfaces. In addition, I pick better footwear, including smaller heels. For the most part, I stretch before I exercise to avoid more damage to my knees.
Back to working conditions, if you work in an industrial area you may have these knee biters known as vertical ladders, metal stairways, and metal deck gratings. The metal vertical ladders have rungs that tend to leap out at your knees , no matter how slow you climb up the ladder. Ouch! The metal stairways, if you trip or fall, can cause a pain that will surely last for the rest of the day. If you do not have knee pads, the metal deck grating will dig into your knees to the point where you cannot stand straight for a while. All of these items that I have mentioned are in place to provide protection, but you have to be alert and wear the protective gear for added protection.
Yes, yes, yes my knees talk to me and I talk back. I wear a knee brace when required. I stretch before I work and exercise. I exercise to remove excess pounds and pressure off my knees. I wear the proper protective gear and respect my surroundings.
